Let’s face it, cleaning your car can be a huge drag. Once you finally get it clean, it usually only stays clean for a couple of days. We’ve come up with a few simple, easy DIY ways to cut through the built-up grime and dirt and get your car sparkling!
- Wash Your Windows with Ammonia
All you need to do is add 60ml of household ammonia to 1 liter of water then, pour it into a plastic bottle with a watertight cap. Once you’ve done that, keep it in your car for washing the windscreen and windows. When your windshield begins to get dirty all you have to do is take out the solution and apply it with a sponge! After the solution is used, dry the windscreen with a paper towel or soft cloth.
- Use a Baking Soda Car Cleaner
To make things easier for you, you should prepare in advance for your next few car washes by making your condensed cleaner. Take ¼ cup of baking soda and pour it into a gallon bucket or jug, then add ¼ cup dishwashing soap and enough water to fill it nearly to the top. Once everything is added to the bucket/jug mix it well and store it for later use. When you need to use it next make sure you combine it vigorously and then pour 1 cup of the cleaner into a water pail. Add warm water to the pail, stir to mix and then your homemade car cleaner is ready for you to use!
- Clean your Windshield Wiper Blades
Everyone knows to clean their windows, but people tend to forget to clean their windshield wiper blades. When your windshield wipers get dirty, they will streak the glass instead of keeping it clear and clean. To wash your wiper blades, you can use the household ammonia like you were cleaning your windows. All you need to do is mix ¼ ammonia and 1 liter of cold water. Once the solution is mixed, gently lift the blades, and wipe both sides with a soft cloth or paper towel that’s been soaked in the solution. Before lowering the blades back into place make sure you wipe them with a dry cloth.
- Use Vodka as Windshield Washer Fluid
Don’t have any windshield washer fluid? Not a problem, raid your liquor cabinet to make your own washing fluid! All you need is a screw-top gallon jug, 3 cups of vodka (we recommend the cheapest you have), 4 cups of water, and two teaspoons of liquid dishwashing detergent! Mix all the ingredients together in the jug and shake well, then pour as much fluid as you need into your windshield-washer reservoir.
